Veterans to Collect Used Flags at Commack Schools

For Commack residents looking to properly dispose of old American flags, you'll soon be able to drop them off at a flag collection box in one of the schools within the community.

The Greenlawn American Legion will be bringing its "Old Glory" flag collection box to eight of Commack's schools, as well as the Hubbs Administration Building in East Northport.

Marines Dick Tartaglia and Norman Taylor painted an old mailbox with a design of the American flag, and refurbished it into a collection box for unusable flags. Once they are collected, the flags will be properly disposed of.

The box will be placed at the following schools during specific dates:

•          - March 5 toMarch 9
•          - March 12 to March 16
•         - March 19 to March 23
•         - March 26 to March 30
•         - April 2 to April 15
•         - April 16 to April 20
•          - April 23 to April 27
•        - April 30 to May 4
•        Hubbs Administration Bldg. - May 7 to May 11
