More than 600 athletes from Long Island, New York City and the Hudson Valley will compete in track and field and tennis events in the Special Olympics Long Island Spring Games on April 21 at Commack High School (1 Scholar Lane, Commack), beginning at 9 a.m.

National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame Inductions


Nine greats from the sports world will be inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame at the Suffolk Y JCC (74 Hauppauge Road, Commack) on April 21 at 10:30 a.m. Among those being honored will be Aly Raisman, who led the gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team to victory at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and David Berger, an Israeli weightlifter, who fell victim to terrorists during the 1972 Munich games.

Presentation on Food Labeling for Genetically Modified Foods

There will be a presentation and discussion on the issue of labeling for genetically modified (GMO) foods at the Commack Winter Farmers Market at the Suffolk Y JCC (74 Hauppauge Road, Commack) on April 21 at 11 a.m.

Flapjack Fundraiser for Commack High School Softball

The Girls Diamond Club will hold a flapjack fundraiser breakfast at the Commack Applebee’s April 21, starting at 8 a.m. Tickets are $10 a person and include pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and a beverage. Tickets can be purchased from either a JV or Varsity Commack High School Softball player or at the door. Those interested can also email: apersich1@aol.com.
