According to head coach Joe Reggio, everyone had picked the Commack football team to lose on Saturday. Everyone except the team members themselves, he said.
Commack came back from a 14-point deficit to beat previously undefeated Ward Melville 17-14 on Saturday.
Commack got its first points on a safety from Kevan Scott with 5:22 left in the third quarter. Down 14-2, quarterback Ryan Heizman found Andrew Caccamo for a 25-yard touchdown pass with 9:01 left in the game, and when the kick was good, Commack trailed by just 5 points. Heizman's 1-yard sneak put the Cougars up 15-14 with 3:11 left to play, followed by a two-point conversion by Matt Greschuk.
"That was an unbelieveable, great win," Reggio said.
