Commack Girls Defeat Hauppauge, Move onto Hoops Semifinals

Commack won Wednesday night, 53-35.

Commack girls' basketball team beat Hauppauge Wednesday night at Commack High School in the Suffolk County Class AA playoffs, moving onto the tournament's semifinals on Saturday.

According to Newsday, the Lady Eagles fell to the Cougars, 53-35, in the quarterfinal game.

Commack advances to play No. 1 seed North Babylon Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue.

No. 5 seed Commack was led by Erin Storck and Melissa Lobaccaro, who reportedly combined for 14 of the team's 17 fourth quarter points.

Hauppauge, seeded No. 13 out of 20 teams in the tournament, had upset Copaigue a few nights earlier, led by 39 points from Julie Williams. Williams and Carly Tellekamp each scored 14 points Wednesday night.

Last year, Hauppauge made it to the tournament semifinals, falling to Riverhead, 60-52.
