Commack's Trenkle Drafted by LI Lizards

Becomes first Commack native to be drafted by Major League Lacrosse team.

Timmy Trenkle became the first Commack native to be drafted by a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) team last week when the Long Island Lizards selected him in the 11th round, 84th overall, of the MLL supplemental draft.

A 2007 graduate of Commack High School, Trenkle played four years of lacrosse at Stony Brook University, where last season he was an All-America East first team selection. In four seasons he scored 47 goals and added 30 assists.

At Commack, Trenkle was a four-time letterwinner and scored a program single-season record 32 goals as a senior. He scored 103 career goals and was named most athletic in the school as a senior. A three-sport stud, he was also a team MVP in football and basketball.

Trenkle is not the first Commack athlete to be affiliated with a professional sports organization. The Cougars have had some luck on the baseball diamond with Pete Harnisch going in the first round of the 1987 Major League Baseball Draft to the Baltimore Orioles and Mike Belfiore going in the first round of the 2009 draft to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Harnisch played 14 seasons of professional baseball for the Orioles, Astros, Mets, Brewers and Reds, while Belfiore is currently in the minor league system of the Diamondbacks.
