Commack South Beats East Williston, with 16-Run Lead

Commack South's junior baseball league, 13-15 year olds, beat East Williston in a 16-Run lead on Tuesday night.

Commack South's junior baseball team beat East Williston to advance in the finals. They have another game Thursday to determine if they get to play in the section 6 championship on Monday.

Commack knocked out East Williston's pitcher right away in the first inning after he threw twenty six pitches and let up three runs.  Nicke Purullo led the charge for Commack with an RBI single to right field to contribute to the first three runs.

In the bottom of the second, Purullo showed quick hands and feet as he snagged a line drive at first and tracked back to the bag for the double play before the East Williston runner could get back.

In the top of the 4th inning lightning struck again with one runner on Paul Britt hit a moon shot just right of the left field foul pole for his ninth home run on the season making the score 7-0. The very next pitch it was Purullo again hitting it within 10 feet to the center field wall.  Following an error Pete Kotsovolos hit a single through the hole between first and second to increase the lead even more.

Top sixth after a single by Purullo and a walk, pitcher Kotsovolos ripped a shot to center that was mishandled and it rolled all the way to the wall scoring both runners and made the score 10-0.

Pete Kotsovolos was outstanding on the mound as well. Even with a broken lace on his shoe he had four strikeouts through three innings and held east Williston to no runs giving up two hits.

Nick Purullo ended the day going 5-5 with a homer, double, three singles, four RBI's and three stolen bases. The only thing missing was a triple to hit for the cycle.

"I can't believe you're getting another chance at that." Coach Russo said aboutPurullo getting a second opportunity at a cycle. Purullo replied "The triple would be nice."

The score was topped off following a Travis Volpe doubled with the bases load and two more runs came in the inning ended with the score 16-0. East Williston sent 5 pitchers to the mound in the game.

Commack looks to their next game Thursday at 6pm to try and extend their season.

"Four teams represent Long Island but we have to qualify to play Monday for Section 6 Championship." Coach Russo explained.
