Boys basketball ends season on high note, girls drop pair of nail-biters
Both boys and girls varsity basketball wrapped up their seasons this week. It was an even split, as the Cougars cinched their final game with a defeat over Ward Melville, while the Lady Cougars lost to the same school.
Boys Basketball: Final Victory
After falling by 13 to Brentwood on February 11, the Cougars came back and won their final game of the 2010-11 season, 58-49 over Ward Melville. Dillon Hertel and John Stathis each chipped in with 12 points to lead the team. Stathis also added 10 rebounds.

The Cougars finished 6-11 overall and 4-10 in a tough League I.

The Lady Cougars, who lost their final three regular season games by two points, finished the regular season 6-12 overall and 5-9 in League I after falling 51-49 to Ward Melville on Tuesday. Shannon McQueeney had 9 points for Commack, but they were unable to stop Caysea Cohen, who hit a three-pointer to tie it at 49 with just under 30 seconds to play.
The three close losses at the end cost the girls a chance at a playoff spot
