Commack Varsity Sports Notebook Feb. 5-11

Hockey eliminated, Girls basketball splits two tight games.

Across the board, Commack teams just couldn't get off the ground this week.

Varsity Hockey: A Disappointing End

The Kings Park/Commack hockey team's season came to a disappointing end in the quarterfinals at the hands of defending champion Middle Country, 9-4. The team was forced to play without Kyle and Corey Twining, due to suspensions doled out by the league.

Boys Basketball: Double Trouble

The Cougars dropped a pair of games this week to two of the top three teams in League I. First, they fell 62-54 to Sachem East on Saturday. John Stathis had 16 points for the Cougars, but they were unable to find an answer for Dan Candemeres of Sachem, who had 24.

Despite a 17-point effort from Connor McQueeney, Floyd also defeated them, 59-51, on Tuesday afternoon.

Girls Basketball: Break Even

After barely squeaking past Longwood, 52-49, on Saturday thanks to Colleen Walker's 18 points, the Lady Cougars fell to Floyd, 40-38, on Tuesday. Melissa Lobacarro had 18 points, but it wasn't enough as Commack fell to 6-10.
