Cougars Scoreboard: Baseball's Long Playoff Run

Fall to Sachem in County Title game.

After losing the first game of the playoffs to Half Hollow Hills West, the Cougars baseball team was staring elimination in the face, as they headed to Lindenhurst to take on the defending state champions.

In a game where nobody gave them a chance, Commack pounded 14 runs off Bulldogs pitching en route to a 14-8 season-extending victory. But that was only the beginning.

The Cougars rattled off four consecutive one-run victories and found themselves in the finals of the losers' bracket, just one more win away from the Class AA county finals.

Sophomore Cameron Kitt threw 5 1/3 innings and the Commack bats crushed three home runs en route to a to set up a date with Sachem North in the finals.

Their improbable run fell two games short of a county championship, however, as the Arrows defeated them in game one, 8-0. The Cougars finished 21-7 and will return a number of key starters, easily making them a force in Class AA next spring.
