Cougars Scoreboard: Football, Soccer Teams Look to Playoffs

Here's our wrap-up of how Commack's varsity sports teams are doing.

The fall high school varsity sports season may be winding down, but the competition is ramping up. Several of Commack's varsity teams have a shot at making the playoffs. 

Here's the latest on Commack's varsity sports teams. 

The Commack varsity football team beat Brentwood, 35-21, on Saturday. The win improves the Cougars League I record to 5-2, seating them fifth out of 14 teams in Division I Suffolk County football.

The varsity football team has one game left in the season. They will host Half Hollow Hills East, league record 3-4, for Homecoming Day at 7 p.m. Saturday.Check Patch later this week for full details on homecoming weekend. 

On the soccer fields, Commack boys varsity soccer defeated Longwood 5-1 on Friday afternoon. This puts the boys soccer team firmly in third place with a 7-3-2- record in League I play, behind Brentwood and Ward Melville. The varsity girls soccer team won 3-2 over Sachem East on Saturday, improving their overall league record to 8-4.

In the gym, Cougars varsity girls volleyball lost to Smithtown West, 1 set to 3, on Oct. 19. The girls volleyball team breaks even at a 5-5 record in League I play, putting them in fourth place in League I. 

Commack boys varsity volleyball fell to Northport, 3 sets to none, on Oct. 18. The volleyball team has an overall record of 1-8 for the 2012 season.
