The Bottom Line: First, and foremost, our thoughts are with running back Brandon Cook (33). Cook was taken away in an ambulance after suffering a legal tackle and immobilized with an apparent head injury. Cook had a great game, including a jaw-dropping 65-yard touchdown after a screen pass. Further, lightning forced a suspension of the game with Commack down 26-14, driving the ball with a first and goal on the Bay Shore 4 yard line with 8:42 left in the 4th quarter. Penalties and turnovers severely hurt a young team that is seeking to bring itself up from the bottom of Division 1. On a positive note, after every miscue the Cougars fought back hard, but the mistakes proved to be too much for Commack to overcome. With a team heavy in juniors and sophomores, these mistakes are to be expected and their mental toughness speaks well for the future.
Key Stat: Commack gave up 13 points off turnovers in the 3rd quarter, which proved to give Bay Shore a lead that it carried to victory.
