Gymnasts Ready to Take on County Finals Again

Commack High School gymnastics won the Suffolk County regional competition and had several athletes qualify for the national competitions individually. They are preparing for their new season, which starts Sept. 24.

Seventeen girls, from eighth to twelfth grade, are preparing for a new gymnastics season with the Commack High School team. Last year they won the Suffolk County competition as a team and Coach Cindy Greenberg thinks they have a strong chance of doing so again this year.

"This is my second year coaching the team. Last year we won the County competition and had several girls compete at the national level," Greenberg said.

Alyssa Burns, a returning Senior, qualified for the all-around gymnast competition at states last year and Shannon Von Braunsberg, also a senior, also qualified to compete in the national competition.
