Photos: Commack Baseball Wins League I Title

Cougars come out on top with a 13-5 League I record to advance into the playoffs.

 

The Commack Cougars varsity baseball team has clawed its way to the top, winning the League I championship title for the 2012 season. 

The Cougars came in on top with a 13-5 league records, 13-6 overall records to beat out their close rivals, Longwood High School. They were able to hang onto the title despite a tough closing series against Ward Melville where they fell, 2 games to 1. Commack edged out the 7-3 win on May 10 to clinch their league.

The team is now preparing to advance to the Class AA 2011-12 baseball players. Commack, seeded No. 6, will host No. 11 ranked Bay Shore at 4 p.m. Wednesday. 

If the Cougars win, they will advance to take on the winner of the Eastport-South Manorville versus West Babylon game on Thursday. A loss would send the Cougars to single-elimination competition in the Losers' Bracket.
