Sports Notebook: Spring Sports Are Underway
Varsity softball off to a strong start, while boys lacrosse struggales against Smithtown East.
The 2011 spring season is in full swing in Commack, with most teams playing multiple games. Let's take a look at how the Cougars fared in the early part of the spring season:
Varsity Softball: The Cougars have jumped out to a 4-1 start in 2011, including victories over Floyd, Ward Melville, Patchogue-Medford and Brentwood. Alanna Norotsky has been the pitcher of record for three of those four wins, including throwing a perfect game on Monday against Brentwood. Paige Swantek has also been a key part of the Cougars success, leading the team with two home runs.
Varsity Baseball: Commack prevented a three-game sweep by Patchogue-Medford Thursday with a 1-0 victory. Junior Cameron Kitt kept the Raiders at bay, throwing a three-hit shutout while striking out 10. The team sits at 3-2 overall, and 1-2 in League I play.

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: After a decisive 12-6 victory over Riverhead on Monday, the Cougars fell to Smithtown East Wednesday, 12-5. David Murphy and Brandon Cook lead the team with 13 and 12 goals respectively, and the team currently sits at 3-2 overall and 1-2 in League I.
Varsity Girls Lacrosse: After throttling Brentwood 20-6 on Monday, the girls lacrosse team fell to undefeated Floyd Thursday, 17-5. They fell to 2-2 in League I, and 3-2 overall. Sarina Manetta leads the team with 18 goals, while Melissa Lobacarro is right behind with 15.
