Registration Opens for Commmack's Summer Explorations

Commack School District to offer two-week summer programs for elementary school children.

Want to give your child something to do this summer that's close to home? There will be several fun and educational programs happening in Commack schools.

Commack School District has started accepting enrollment for its Summer Explorations Program and Summer Music Program in July held at Burr Intermediate School.

The Summer Explorations Program is aimed at children entering first through sixth grade for the 2012-13 school year. The program offers a choice of two two-week sessions, from July 2 - July 13 or July 16 - July 27, in which children can be sign up for up to three courses.

Courses offered under the Summer Explorations Program range from the television-show based fun to educational programs. Students might want to test their hand-eye coordination by playing games from the popular show "A Minute to Win It" or see if they can make it on "Commack Survivor" while learning new survival skills.

For those parents looking for more educational programs, there's the Mad Scientist course to engage children with hands-on activities, a basic Spanish course and a Writer's Workshop. There are also academic reinforcement classes available for students who are on an Individualized Education Plan, Special Services or Academic Intervention Support.

Costs of the Summer Explorations Program starts at $81 for one class, up to $270.000 for three courses at the second session.

In addition to the Summer Explorations Program, students who are entering in fourth to eighth grade for the 2012-13 school year can sign up for the district's four-week Summer Music Program. Students can participate in band, orchestra or musical theater/chorus. Students in grades six to eight have the additional option of signing up for jazz band.

All courses are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Commack School District does not provide any transportation for the summer programs. All registrations must be received online or to returned to the district by June 15.
