5 Places to Volunteer During the Holidays

There are plenty of ways to give back to the community this holiday season.

1. Long Island Cares: Hauppauge-based Long Island Cares is also always in need of volunteers for the Harry Chapin Food Bank, especially around the holidays. Volunteers can volunteer for administrative, distribution, and fundraising work, or provide hands-on volunteer services like sorting food.

If you want to donate food, Long Island Cares will be collecting donations at in Commack on Nov. 17 from 5 a.m. to 7p.m. They also have a box setup year-round at the office on Moreland Road in Commack.

2. : The Food Pantry, located at 90 Edgewood Ave in Smithtown, accepts donations Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers are always needed. Call 631-265-7676 for more information.

The pantry to those in need, with the help of local school districts, the senior center, town service clubs, and individuals.

3. : This food pantry serves the Huntington community five days a week, and is in constant need of volunteers and donations. For more information about times, volunteering, and involvement, call 631-351-1060. The Community Food Council is located at 90 E 5th St, Huntington Station, NY 11746.

4. Brentwood Food Pantries/Soup Kitchens: There are a number of food pantries and soup kitchens serving the nearby Brentwood community that are always looking for volunteers and donations, especially during the holidays.

5. : This group meets monthly at to assemble hundreds of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to donate throughout Long Island and New York City. Donations of peanut butter, jelly, bread, paper towels, sandwich bags and paper plates are required.
