The Hauppauge-based food bank received a $2,500 grant from Macy's Long Island East District to go towards its Summer Feeding program, which provides free breakfast and lunches for children who have limited access to food while schools are closed this summer.

"Our thanks goes out to Macy's Long Island District for their consistent support and partnership and especially to the local who does so much for our organization throughout the year. We continue to be inspired by their generosity and good will," said Millie Montes, child nutrition program specialist for Long Island Cares, in a statement.

Macy's Long Island East District also raised more than $800 in employee donations and more than 50 pounds of food given to LI Cares through its 2012 "Bag Hunger" campaign.

"As a company, Macy's Inc. believes in giving back to our local communities. We hope that our contributions, leadership and volunteer efforts help create stronger, healthier places to work and live and that our example will encourage others to do the same. We are so pleased to have Long Island Cares as a partner," said Karen Lipman-White, Macy's Long Island East District director.
