A light blanket of snow covered Commack Thursday morning, a small indication of what is to come later on tonight.

The National Weather Service predicts that Long Island will see between 8 and 10 inches of snow, starting Thursday night, and has issued a blizzard warning for 6 p.m. in the area.

Temperatures are expected to drop Thursday night into the mid-teens, and stay below freezing into Sunday.

If residents learned anything from last year's February blizzard, which crippled most of Long Island, it's to be prepared. Here is a list of local stores to find shovels, snow blowers, batteries, generators and other weather-related items.

The roads this morning were fine so why were so many people driving 10 MPH?

Love the line, "stock up on shovels"...yea, like if you don't have one by now

The roads are not the same everywhere. There are very icy spots all over the north shore.
