Coming Up: Kerry Rose Foundation 5K; Thanksgiving

A look at upcoming events and activities this week in Commack.

Happy Thanksgiving week, Commack! Before we all get into holiday-mode, here's a look at what's coming up this week in town:

Kerry Rose Foundation 5K

The Kerry Rose Foundation, which was created to honor a Commack graduate who was killed in a fire, will hold a 5-kilometer trail run Saturday at Hoyt Farm Nature Preserve to raise awareness of safety and sprinkler systems in college-operated housing. The race begins at 11 a.m. Check in for the event starts at 9:30 a.m. To register for the race online, visit Active.Com. For more information about the 5K and the foundation, visit KerryRoseFoundation.Org.

Early School Dismissal Wednesday

As part of New York State Law, Commack will School District will be testing its emergency management plans Wednesday, which includes an early dismissal test. Students will be dismissed from school 15 minutes early Wednesday in order to test the early dismissal response of the district. Parents should plan accordingly.

Commack families will be celebrating Thanksgiving Thursday. Commack schools will be closed Thursday and Friday. The Commack Public Library will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.
