The Week Ahead: Blood and Food Drives

A look at upcoming events and activities in Commack and nearby.

Blood Drive
The Commack Ambulance Corp will hold a blood drive July 11 from 3 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at 200 Burr Road, East Northport. Walk-ins are welcome. 

SCOPE Environmental Adventure Camp Animal Adaptations Week
Learn all about the creature features that make it possible for animals to survive in a variety of habitats from the beach to the forest at Sunken Meadow State Park. Get up close and personal with a new animal each day.  This week includes an out of camp trip for older campers and beach day for all. Open for children entering grades 1-8 in September 2013. Leadership Development
The Smithtown Youth Bureau's leadership development program teaches students how to be effective leaders through a five week course. During this course, students will learn leadership techniques and put them in action during exercises during the group. The first part of the leadership series takes place July 8, 15, 22, 29 and August 5 from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Horizons Community Room (Back entrance of 161 East Main Street, Smithtown) Contact Lindsay Sommeso at lsommeso@tosgov.com or 631-360-7595.

Fashion Illustration Workshop
Students will learn how to draw the fashion figre in several poses. They will also create their own fashion line worthy of NY Fashion Week. Many techniques for drawing fashion designs such as drapery, sequins, fur, lace, leather and others will be covered as well as instruction on faces, hands, and feet/shoes. Wedding gowns and bridesmaids gowns will be the final prject in the fun class. $100 Course Fee and $10 materials fee. Wednesdays: July 10, 17, 24, 31 from 4:15 p.m. until 6:15 p.m. Visit www.stacarts.org for more information.

Food Drive at Huntington YMCA

Head to the Huntington Y (60 Main St., Huntington) to participate in a food drive July 11. The YMCA of Long Island is hosting a summer food drive for Long Island Cares, Inc. throughout July at each of its branches. The Y will encourage all campers, members and Long Islanders to bring in items for this drive.
