Commack Agenda: 5K Running of the Bull, Dog Show

It may be getting a bit chilly at night, but there are still plenty of beautiful fall days ahead, including two this weekend if the forecast is accurate. So let's take a look at a few fun events taking place around the region this weekend:
SMITHTOWN
Join the Greater Smithtown Chamber of Commerce for the 8th annual 5K Running of the Bull on Saturday to benefit Angela’s House and the Courtney Sipes Foundation. Day-of registration and Check in begins at 8 a.m. The 1K fun run will start at 8:45 a.m., followed by the 5K race at 9 a.m. Cost is $25 the day of the race.

Enjoy watching 600 dogs compete at the Suffolk County Kennel Club’s 74th annual AKC Dog Show this Saturday at the Flowerfield Fair Grounds starting at 9 a.m. There will be vendors, demonstrations, and a Doggie Fun Zone where dog owners can try their best with their pet. Cost is $10 per person, $25 per car load. All dogs on site must be up-to-date with vaccinations and be kept on a leash. Spectators are advised to bring their own chairs.
St. Patrick School’s Octoberfest

St. Patrick’s School in Smithtown will host its first Octoberfest celebration on Saturday, from noon - 6 p.m. The festival will be held rain or shine, with live music, Bavarian Folk Dancing demonstrations, food, beer and more. Springsteen Concert
St. Philip and James Roman Catholic Church’s counsel of the Knights of Columbus is hosting a concert featuring the ultimate Bruce Springsteen tribute band, " Tramps Like Us" on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds go to charity.
Smithtown’s Guide Dog for the Blind Foundation will hold its 24th annual Second Sight Bike-A-Thon on Sunday, leaving from their Smithtown campus on Jericho Turnpike. Bicyclists get to participate by choosing one of six routes, ranging from 5 miles to a challenging 65 miles, to raise funds for the foundation.
HAUPPAUGE
Halfway to St. Patty’s Day
The Hauppauge Fire Department’s “Halfway to St. Patty’s Day”festival is on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., featuring traditional music, food and more ($30 per person; kids under 12 free).
Breast Cancer Awareness
Make a pink stretch bracelet for free at A.C. Moore in Hauppauge to raise awareness for breast cancer. The event is on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
For the Singer Inside
The Island Hills Chorus offers free singing lessons every Thursday night, starting tonight, for the next four weeks at the IBEW Union Hall in Hauppauge.
Learn how to play chess or practice your strategy at the Hauppauge Public Library on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

The Commack Raiders Soccer Team will hold a garage sale Sunday from Sept. 29 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at 10 Grendon Lane.

Pumpkin UnloadGet into the fall season and earn some community service by helping Kings Park United Methodist Church unload pumpkins for its annual pumpkin sale on Saturday at 9 .m. Community Service letters will be available to those who help.
St. Theresa Day
Join the The Little Way of St. Theresa for their annual St. Theresa Day Festival on Sunday at 1 p.m. at 18 Balboa Drive, Kings Park. There will be a prayer ceremony with a special blessing for children, followed by arts and crafts.
