Commack Agenda: Hanukkah Family Day, Evelyn Knapp 5K Run to Remember

Another weekend is almost here. If you're looking to get out of the house, here's what's happening in the area:

COMMACK

Hanukkah Family Day

Members of the community are invited to take part in a free Hanukkah party, featuring a bounce house and menorah lighting, at the Suffolk Y JCC in Commack Nov. 24. Enjoy latkes, create Hanukkah candles, play dreidels and listen to the reading of "When Mindy Saved Hanukkah." There will also be a candle lighting celebration and children will receive chocolate gelt and dreidels. The party will take place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring new toiletry items for donations. Jazz in the Living Room

Grand Opening 

Celebrate the grand opening of Sound Surgeon Music Accessories this Saturday, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at 956 West Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown. Change your guitar strings for free with donation of non-perishable food for a local food pantry, enjoy free food and bring a gift for Toys for Toys.

Knox School Summer Open House 

Can’t believe summer’s over? Join Knox School for the Summer Adventures Open House on Saturday at 11 a.m. Register in advance for next summer and receive the 2013 rates. 

Celebrate Hanukkah

Join the Smith Haven Mall for their annual celebration of Hanukkah in the mall center at 12:30 p.m. in front of Macy’s.

Taste of the Arbors

The Arbors Assisted Living in Hauppauge will be hosting the Taste of the Arbors event on Thursday, November 21st from 1-4pm.  Our Executive Chefs are proud to present culinary delights of the season. KINGS PARK

Slavic Night

The Kings Park Heritage Museum will celebrate its sixth annual Slavic Night this Friday, from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., with music, dance and celebrations marking the cultural history of Eastern-Central Europe. Admission is free.

Holiday Fair

Martin Luther Terrace Apartments will host its annual holiday fair to benefit its tenant association on Saturday, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The fair will include handcrafted holiday gifts, decorations and more for sale. Refreshments will be served.

The Kimberly Charity Tortorella Fundraiser

Enjoy a dinner out this Saturday to help lifelong Kings Park resident Kimberly Charity Tortorella, who is battling with leukemia. A fundraiser with dinner, raffles, 50/50, a Chinese auction and more will be held Saturday, 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. at the Smithtown Landing Country Club. Tickets are $55 each.

Evelyn Knapp 5K Run to Remember

Lace up your sneakers this Sunday at the 6th annual 5K Evelyn Knapp Run to Remember, benefiting Strong for Life, at Sunken Meadow State Park on Sunday. Day-of registration begins at 7:30 a.m, with a 1K Fun Run, 5K Run to Remember at 9 a.m. and 3K Walk to Remember at 9:15 a.m.
