Everything's Coming Up Roses at Commack Florist

The local flower shop is gearing up for Mother's Day, one of its biggest sales days.

Next to Valentine's Day, Mother's Day is the busiest time of year for Commack couple George and Linda Karatzas, who own 1-800-Flowers/Commack Florist located at 6572 Jericho Turnpike.

George said that the business has already taken 600 orders for Mother's Day. After 13 years in the business together though, the pair has gotten its timing down to a science.

Roses are the most requested bouquets this time of year so the Karatzas fill an entire truck with them, ready to arrange for families to give to the hardest working lady of the house. The local florist has become known for its Mother's Day special of two-dozen long stem roses for $59.95. Other popular arrangements feature pink and peach roses, lilies and daises and range between $44.99 and $74.99).

For those who aren't a fan of flowers, the florist also sells fruit bouquets, with fresh and chopped dipped fruit cut in the shape of flowers. The Karatzas couple said that fruit arrangements have become more and more popular over the past two years that the business has sold them
