Autism Fundraiser Friday at Commack Vet Lanes

The bowling event will raise money for students with special needs to play on lacrosse teams.

A fundraiser will take place May 3 at Commack Vet Lanes to raise money for Hills vs. Autism, a lacrosse program for children with special needs.

The second Bowling Fundraiser for the program will take place from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Hills vs. Autism was founded by Drew Quinto, who was 13 at the time he came up with the idea.

Hills vs. Autism has one main goal: to promote awareness, tolerance and acceptance for kids with autism.

Quinto has a 16-year-old brother on the autism spectrum. To outsiders, the disorder may seem to be a dividing factor between the siblings, but not to Quinto. The incoming Half Hollow Hills student focuses on what he and his brother, Corey, have in common, especially their love for lacrosse. For that reason, Drew, and his family, created Hills vs. Autism, a nonprofit organization that promotes physical and social skill enhancement through the sport.

Through hard work and dedication, the Quinto family has had more than 70 teams compete in a lacrosse tournament, to earn the title of "King of the Hill." The tournament is the main fundraiser for Hills Lacrosse, which helps offset expenses for  participants with special needs. The funds also provide gym time for kids during the off season and supports the high school teams.
