FREEZE TAG, HOPSCOTCH, MOTHER MAY I, SIMON SAYS

Let’s share stories about games we played (or our children played) growing up in Commack. (They’ll surely differ from generation to generation.) If you played a game taught to you by your parents or grandparents, we’d especially love to hear about them.

My dear maternal grandmother taught me “Hit the Penny.” We used to play it for hours on end. You’d take a penny, put it on the ground, then have two opponents stand and face each other a few feet apart, with the penny between them. You’d bounce a handball towards your opponent with the intention to “hit the penny.” If you hit it, you’d get one point. If you flipped the penny, that was worth two points. First person to get to twenty points is the winner. Now, Simon Says, "Tell us your stories."
