#62- Adopt An Animal From A Local Shelter

With many shelters constantly full to capacity and countless animals left to fend for themselves outdoors, it's a weekly reminder that there are plenty of pets who could use a home.

October is the American Humane Association's Adopt-A-Dog month, so if seeing a smiling canine on our homepage every other week or so has been making you consider bringing home a furry friend, there's no better time than now.

The two animal shelters closest to Commack are the , and . Both establishments could use your help, not only by providing a home for a pet, but through their regular fundraisers and charity events.

Dogs get along with everyone and anyone; all they require is love, petting, and the occasional treat. Whether it's enjoying the last few warm days chasing a ball, or bracing for winter curled up on a couch, dogs have nothing but affection to give.

Visit the websites for the League for Animal Protection of Huntington and Little Shelter Animal Hospital for more information about bringing home your new best friend.

And don't worry, cats, your month is in June.
