#72- Tour Commack By Bike

Ditch the car and hit these stops on your two-wheel adventure.

We all drive in and out Commack on a daily basis, but have you ever devoted a day to seeing the town you eat dinner in, go shopping in and get stuck at way too many traffic lights in?

When you're ready to see Commack, grab your bicycle—trying to explore in a vehicle will only end in frustration and an empty gas tank—and consider scoping out these spots:

: Before any long ride, it's a good idea to make sure your bike is in top shape. This local shop offers reapirs and accessories for all things bike-related.

: A great way to start a day of bike riding is with a hearty breakfast. Candlelight Diner is home to enormous omelettes, heaping sides of home fries and coffee cups with no bottoms. Beginning the adventure at Candlelight means you'll have energy for the entire day. (The is a great spot to end your ride, too.)

: With plenty of open space and wildlife to see, Hoyt Farm is a natural destination if only for the chance to do some exploring on foot. The trees and pond have plenty of creatures to see, and the museum offers a brief reprieve from the heat. And with coming to keep the Preserve in tip-top shape, it'll be even nicer on next summer's bike tour.

: Nisen is worth checking out for two reasons: It has some of the freshest sushi on Long Island, and it looks like it belongs in Manhattan or South Beach. During the day, outdoor seating is available to soak in some rays while chowing down on sashimi and specialty rolls. At night, the neon lights turn up.

: At first glance, visiting a cemetery on a bike ride might seem bizarre, but the Commack Cemetery is (and it's not scary during the day). Located on Commack Road just north of Jericho Turnpike, the Cemetery is the final resting place for descendants of Aaron Burr. are also the burial site for roughly 160 veterans, some having served in the Civil War, as well as five 9/11 victims.

: Close out a day of sightseeing and eating by enjoying a few games of bowling. at Commack Lanes transform the alley into a light spectacle, with prizes up for grabs to those who can overcome the challenges.
