Commack Target Evacuated

Report of natural gas smell led to an evacaution Sunday afternoon.

The store located at 98 Veterans Memorial Highway was evacuated Sunday afternoon after someone reported smelling natural gas inside the store.

The incident occurred at around 3 p.m., said a Suffolk County Public Information Office spokesperson.

Customers and staff were asked to evacuate the store via an announcement over the speaker system. Police and firefighters responded to the call.

The fire department allowed customers and Target employees to return to the store after 10 minutes, according to Target spokesperson Antoine Lafromboise, for what was deemed a "system issue."
